The Weight Shift Control Aircraft Pilots Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge is for ultralight, sport and private pilots flying trikes and weight-shift control (WSC) light-sport aircraft (LSA).
Written by Sport Pilot expert, Paul Hamilton, this handbook is inspired by the FAA "Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge, "8083-25A" but written specifically for the trike pilot.
And just like the FAA handbook has become required reading for all airplane pilots, this will quickly become required reading for all trike pilots. Providing basic knowledge essential for all trike pilots—from beginning student pilots to those pursuing more advanced pilot certificates—this book introduces pilots to the broad spectrum of knowledge needed as they progress through pilot training. Studying this book, pilots gain the required knowledge to earn a certificate and understand aerodynamic theory associated with trike flight.
The book begins with a basic introduction to flying, including the history of flight, the role of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), criteria for earning the various pilot certificates, how to select a flight school and instructor, and the tests associated with earning a pilot certificate. Subjects covered include aircraft structure, principles and aerodynamics of flight, flight controls, aircraft systems, flight instruments, flight manuals and documents, weight and balance, aircraft performance, weather theory, aviation weather services, airport operations, airspace, navigation, aero-medical factors, and aeronautical decision-making.
This 2012 edition reflects the latest aviation industry procedures, equipment, techniques and regulations. It is a key reference for all the information necessary to operate a weight-shift control aircraft and for passing the FAA Knowledge Exam and Practical Test (checkride). Newly illustrated with hundreds of full-color drawings and photographs! Softcover, 8.25"x10.75", 320 pages.

WhoThis is THE book for all student pilots, transitioning pilots, and pilots of weight-shift control trikes. WhatThe Weight-Shift Control Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge provides basic knowledge for the student Sport and Private Pilot learning to fly, as well as pilots seeking the advanced Certificated Flight Instructor certification. For trike pilots, it replaces the general FAA "Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge" 8083-25A publication which is the resource for basic of pilot aeronautical knowledge for general aviation airplanes. This is an excellent book to help you fine tune your understanding and execution of flight maneuvers and procedures specifically for weight-shift control trikes. WhenThis will be part of your ground school course for flight. You and your instructor will refer to it during pre-flight and post flight briefings. You'll find this handbook useful from the time you start flying trikes to after you get your license. It will be a great reference book throughout your flying career. WhereKeep it handy, cause It will typically be the first book you pull from your pilot library shelf. WhyThis covers aeronautical knowledge specifically for weight-shift control trikes. |

Already had the cheap black and white version of "WSC Aircraft Flying Handbook". This time I purchased the full color version of the "WSC Aircraft Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge". Very glad that I did as the graphics are so much better. The book contains heaps of useful, well organized information. I commend Paul for his efforts to streamline the original FAA version for WSC use. Definitely a "Must Have" for all WSC students. My only complaint is that it is riddled with grammatical errors. Most are minor but there a few that result in confusing statements.
