Product Description

The Weight-Shift Control (WSC) Aircraft Flying Handbook introduces the basic pilot knowledge and skills that are essential for pilot WSC aircraft. It introduces pilots to the broad spectrum of knowledge that is needed as they progress in their pilot training. This handbook is for student pilots, as well as those pursuing more advanced sport pilot and private pilot certificates.

Student pilots learning to fly WSC aircraft, certificated pilots preparing for additional WSC ratings or who desire to improve their flying proficiency and aeronautical knowledge, and commercial WSC pilots teaching WSC students how to fly will find this handbook helpful. This book introduces the prospective pilot to the realm of WSC flight and provides information and guidance to all weight-shift control trike pilots in the performance of various maneuvers and procedures.

This handbook conforms to pilot training and certification concepts established by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). There are different ways of teaching, as well as performing flight procedures and maneuvers, and many variations in the explanations of aerodynamic theories and principles. This handbook adopts a selective method and concept to flying WSC aircraft. The discussions and explanations reflected the most commonly used practices and principles. Occasionally, the work "must" or similar language is used where the desired action is deemed critical. The use of such language is not intended to add to, interpret, or relieve a duty imposed by Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR).

FYI - This book is no longer printed by the US Government Printing Office. If you happen to find it for sale, make certain it is an original full-size, full-color edition. If it is not full-size, full-color the diagrams are unusable and you will miss out on the information they were meant to convey.

Who

For all trike student pilots and transitioning pilots adding a trike endorsement to their existing pilot certificate. Also a great instructor teaching aid for flight instructors transitioning or teaching trike pilots.

What

I wrote the content of this book, sketched the diagrams (which were redrawn by a great artist) and shot or sourced all the pictures in this book. I provided all the knowledge I've gain through my many years of flying and instructing plus valuable advice, tips and techniques from other industry experts for a comprehensive body of knowledge. Included is everything you need to know about flying a trike, the components of the trike wing/undercarriage/engine plus some aeronautical knowledge ground school.

The FAA’s objective with this handbook was to get all the design and operation aspects unique to a trike into one easy to use resource. This handbook does for the trike pilot what the ”Airplane Flying Handbook" does for the airplane pilot. This is mainly the flight training reference but one ground school chapter on airspace which I was able to improve greatly over the FAA generic/airplane ”Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge"

When

You'll find this handbook useful throughout the flight and ground training process. If you want to get a jump on flight and ground school, you can read this book before you seek out training with an instructor.

The handbook is referenced in the ”Sport and Private Pilot Training Syllabus - Trike".

This will be your "Go-To" reference manual throughout your trike flying career.

Where

The book can be read anywhere and at any time. You can even take it to your checkride as a resource.

Why

This handbook is THE comprehensive guide to trike flying and is required reading for all trike pilots. All US official certificated training information for trike pilots is in this book.

  1. Don't be cheap...get the real thing from the author. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 3rd Nov 2020

You can view this book for free on the FAA website, but if you want it in print, get it from pilot-stores.com. This is Paul Hamilton's store. He is the author of the book. I purchased a color copy from Amazon for $40.00 and it ended up being a so-so photocopied version. The print is very inconsistent...some pages are light, some are dark AND blurry. The pictures look like they were photocopied and the front and back covers do not have the glossy protective coating. If you're familiar with WSC trikes, then you know it's not exactly a cheap sport/hobby. My advice? Spend the extra $20 and get the real book right HERE from Paul.
