The Practical Test Standards (PTS) is what the Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) uses to develop questions for the oral exam portion of the checkride and the specific flight maneuvers required for the checkride. The Oral Exam Guide for Private Pilot contains the answers to the questions on all the areas of knowledge typically formulated by an FAA DPE. If you generally know the answers to the questions, or at least know where to find the answers in the book, you can be assured that you will pass the oral portion of the checkride. WhenThe FAA written/computerized knowledge test can be taken any time before the checkride. Some student pilots study and take the knowledge exam before the flight training to get a jumpstart on the ground training and some flight concepts. Others take it when they are further along in their ground/flight training. Whichever you choose, the exam must be taken before the final FAA checkride. The “Practical Test Standards” book and Oral Exam Guide” are usually utilized during the last phase of the flight training in preparation for the checkride. WhereYou can run the Private Pilot Prepware CD on your computer anywhere. You do not have to be connected to the internet. The Test Prep book, Oral Exam Guide, and Practical Test Standards book can be read anywhere and you can even take them with you as reference material during the checkride. WhyThe FAA Knowledge Exam is not difficult to pass, but you do need to prepare for it. The checkride is quite involved and can be expensive, especially if you have to travel to meet your DPE. So, you want to only take it once. You don't want to fail and have to retake it. Study with this kit, and you'll be sure to pass. |

I am studying for the WSC Private rating and this package is set up perfectly to efficiently train for the written and the oral part of the practical test. I installed it and started right away into some study sessions. If I wasn't sure of the answer I clicked on the "Study Guide" button that took me to a condensed version of the FAR and AIM to find the answer. If I wanted more detail, I just Googled the subject and read the FAR or AIM in more detail. If I missed an answer, I got instantaneous feedback, and an brief explanation of the answer. It is a great way to learn.
I am going through all the modules again, and writing some notes where ever I miss the answer of have doubts and had to guess an answer. Those notes will help me concentrate on my weak areas. I'll keep going at till I get a 100 every time and then I'll be ready for the test.
The package also comes with thick test prep paper book that has all the questions and study guide material that are accessible from the prepware program. Its a good way to review when you don't have your computer with you and maybe pick up some tips from questions for related ratings (like glider, or sport pilot)
The oral exam guide has example questions to prepare for the oral exam. These questions cover the same material in a different format. If you can answer all these too, you should be in great shape.
This package is definitely well worth the money and a great way to study.
